If you’re looking to get involved in polo, your relationship with your horse is obviously going to be one of the most important things to work on. While polo is a strenuous sport that requires all parties involved to be fit, smart, and agile, not everyone knows what it takes to be a part of the sport.

If you want to get involved in the sport, you should get a horse that is equipped to handle all that it takes to become a successful polo horse. First, you are going to have to get it equipped and adapted to the ball. Considering the ball is always thrown close to the horse’s head, it is crucial that the horse is not afraid of the ball. Just as with most things involved in training horses, exposure therapy is going to make them much better equipped for the sport.

Next, you are going to want to focus on the diet of your polo horse. Horses are supposed to have strict and healthy diets regardless, but some owners fall by the wayside in terms of the right care. Be sure to follow your vet’s instructions when it comes to feeding your horse the correct food, and try to find a vet that specializes in horses and specifically one that has experience with polo horses.

Another thing you have to pay attention to as a horse owner is your animal’s physical strength. A polo horse has to be strong and capable of taking on a lot of stress. Get in the habit of making sure your horse does 30 to 45 minutes of physical strength training daily to ensure that it can play the game.
